About The Artist

“We Are Warriors” is a re-recorded and retitled version of Avril Lavigne’s final track “Warrior” from her 2019 album Head Above Water.

Lavigne first announced the upcoming project on April 21, 2020 in relation to the 2019-20 coronavirus pandemic. Proceeds for the song will go to Project Hope, which is a humanitarian relief organization helping doctors and medical staff worldwide during the pandemic.

Sitting at her home in Los Angeles watching the coronavirus pandemic sweep across the world, singer Avril Lavigne knew she wanted to do something.

"I've just been so in awe of seeing everybody come together and really step it up," she told CNN in a recent interview. "It's been insane to realize the people on the frontlines, the doctors, the nurses, the hospital workers, the essential workers, even the mail delivery and the grocery store [workers] they are holding the world together right now."

That's why she decided to re-record her single "Warrior" off her Head Above Water album and adjust the lyrics to reflect the current health crisis.

Avril Ramona Lavigne (/ˌævrɪl ləˈviːn/ AV-ril lə-VEEN, French: [avʁil laviɲ]; born September 27, 1984) is a Canadian-French singer, songwriter, and actress. By the age of 15, she had appeared on stage with Shania Twain, and by 16, she had signed a two-album recording contract with Arista Records worth more than $2 million.

Her debut studio album, Let Go (2002), emphasized a skate punk persona that has earned her the title "Pop Punk Queen", from music publications.[2][3] Lavigne is considered a key musician in the development of pop punk music since she paved the way for female-driven, punk-influenced pop music in the early 2000s.
